Carbon-manganese steels like grade ST 35 is one of the most affordable costing materials around. In addition to having a reduced cost, they exhibit a typical feature to that of carbon steels i.e. they have a high hardness. However, the hardness of these low carbon DIN 2391 ST35 Pipes tends to be much lower than high carbon pipes, on account of the lower carbon content.

Improving the hardness of the material is a relatively easy task. Typically the DIN 2391-2 Grade St 35 Carbon Steel Seamless Tubes would have to be processed by either carburization or they could undergo nitriding. Both these processes improve the surface hardness of the DIN 2391 ST35 NBK Seamless Tubes in the presence of either carbon or nitrogen rich substrates via heat treatment. The dispersion and deposition of either carbon or nitrogen atoms on the surface of these tubes make them hard. The cost of processing Carbon Steel DIN 2391 ST 35 pipes is much lower than the cost of high carbon steel and the corrosion resistance is also low.
