Grade AISI 4140 is a low alloy steel that contains additions of chromium, molybdenum, and manganese in their alloy. In comparison to Grade 4130, the content of carbon in 4140 is slightly higher. This versatile alloy makes for an AISI 4140 Pipe with good properties. For instance, they have good resistance to atmospheric corrosion along with reasonable strength.

The chemistry of grade 4140 seamless pipe manifests good overall alliances of properties such as toughness, strength, fatigue strength and wear resistance as well. A heat treatment is carried out on the components for the purpose of improving its mechanical properties. Furthermore, this alloy has self-scaling properties, which is an important characteristic for 4140 alloy steel pipe. The resistance to scaling would effectively lower the cost of treatment. Considered to be a mechanical tube, the aisi 4140 steel pipe is produced by either cold finishing or by means of hot finishing, which is usually cast in ingots or if required, strand cast. Once the pipe has been hot worked, it could be cold finished, and finally, they are coated with oil prior to being formed. Oiling the surface of ASTM A519 Grade 4140 Pipe efficiently retards the collection of dust.
