Grade Y52 is a carbon steel alloy intended for use in systems associated with high pressure transmission. The manufacture of Y52 Welded Steel Pipe is done keeping in accordance with specification ASTM A381. This specification caters to the manufacture of pipes for high pressure transmission applications. The Y52 pipe is a grade that has been intended for fabrication of accessories and fittings for both pump station piping as well as for compressors.
The required chemical compositions for this particular carbon steel alloy in addition to the tensile properties of finished ASTM A381 Grade Y52 pipe has been presented in this specification along with certain mechanical testing requirements. For instance, each length of pipe is tested from an individual batch of a hundred lengths, for a transverse body tension test & a transverse weld tension test. Whereas a transverse guided-bend weld test is to be cut from a length of the y52 carbon steel pipe from a respective lot of 50 lengths. Moreover, a hydrostatic test is also performed on a specific length of a pipe. A radiographic examination performed on the Astm A381 Y52 Ssaw Welded Pipe ensures the manufacturer that the welding equipment used to weld these pipes are consistently providing the requisite quality.
